Many people know someone who suffers from addiction to alcohol and are often baffled by their inability to recognize the problem. When a person finally does come to the realization that they need help, then where do they go? Many in this situation have no insurance and have already exhausted most of their own resources. There is a solution.
The growth and need for alcoholic recovery support is expanding in the northeastern Georgia area and there are many good resources where people with alcohol addiction and their families can get the help they need. Serenity House of Buford provides facilities for recovery groups, which comprise over 80 meetings every month. These recovery meetings help as many as 500 attendees a week. Many of these people are able to get their lives back on track.
Because of the tremendous need in our area, the Serenity House of Buford, Inc. (SHOBI) was established in 2001 as a Georgia nonprofit Corporation organized for the express purpose of assisting people in recovery and their families. SHOBI provides facilities for meetings, conferences and communications between groups and service organizations. Serenity House is one of the few meeting places that have facilities for attendees with children and it is a family friendly environment.
By incorporating SHOBI as a not-for-profit organization and establishing our own stand-alone facility, we will be better able to serve the needs of all current and future members that desire to recover from the effects of alcoholism. The first major objective of SHOBI is to gather money for a down payment for a standalone, autonomous, dedicated facility. The second objective is locating a suitable and affordable location.
SHOBI needs your assistance in the funding of our goal to provide a building large enough to accommodate the tremendous increase of those in our community that are affected by the disease of alcoholism. The majority of our funding presently comes from individual members of the meetings and this is just enough to keep Serenity House operating at its present capacity. To reach the larger goal of a permanent location we are asking for financial aid from outside businesses and individuals, and looking for grants available from local entities. Additional funding will come from the sale of annual memberships. If you or your business is in a position to help then we would love to hear from you. Please email us for further information. Your donation could save a life.
Serenity House has been in the same location for over 16 years but the need for a larger and more permanent building is at hand. If you would like to offer a grant, property or a donation then we would like to hear from you. Your donation is tax deductible and we will provide you with a receipt for tax purposes. Please contact us at info@serenityhouseofbuford.org if you would like to help or have any questions.
